Family from Washington Families Fund Highlighted at White House

E-mail

On June 22nd, the White House announced its first-ever federal plan to end homelessness and highlighted a family from Washington state, who has been helped by the Washington Families Fund and our partner grantee, Hopelink. Natalie from Issaquah, WA, was flown to D.C. with her two young sons to meet with key Cabinet members and representatives from our delegation, including Senator Patty Murray.

Building Changes and our partner grantee, Hopelink, were invited to send a family to this historic event to exemplify the innovative and successful work being done in Washington State to end homelessness.

Barb Poppe, Executive Director of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, said they asked Building Changes to identify a family from one of our programs because of the investments we’ve made in understanding the needs of families, learning from our work to restructure our homeless response systems for families, and because we’ve made a commitment to evaluation and research that continuously adapts our models.

Poppe cited Building Changes, the State of Washington and our philanthropic partners as a great example of how the best ideas are developed outside of Washington, D.C. in communities across the United States.

Building Changes is grateful not only to our public-private partners in helping us to make this program so successful, but also to the perseverance and hard work of those families who have faced the challenges of homelessness and found paths to stability despite difficult economic times.
