West Seattle-based Family Promise closes doors, hopes to reopen

The West Seattle Blog reported that Family Promise has been forced to temporarily close its doors until they can raise $90,000 to fund operations. Laura Bermes, a board member of Family Promise of Seattle, stated that the closure leaves “no shelter for homeless families between downtown Seattle and Kent.”
Low-income families having hard time finding housing

The Tri-City Herald highlighted the difficulty low-income families have faced in securing housing within the Tri-Cities area. The Housing Authority of Pasco and Franklin County currently has 213 families on its Section 8 housing voucher list, while the Kennewick Housing Authority has approximately 780 households on its Section 8 housing list. The Kennewick Housing Authority quit accepting applications on July 1.

The Tacoma Housing Authority has announced plans to spend about $4 million in economic stimulus money to improve about 350 senior residences around the city and start redeveloping about 140 affordable housing units in South Tacoma. Tacoma officials are also seeking to match the money with funds from Building Changes, through the Washington Families Fund.
