  • Building Changes Expands Reach With $1M Federal Grant: Building Changes recently received a two-year, $1 million federal Recovery Act Strengthening Communities Fund grant. This new funding will allow us to reach out to the state’s 31 neediest counties, and through a combination of grant making and expert advice, boost the capacity of agencies serving homeless people.
  • Washington Families Fund Highlighted in Raikes Speech to Seattle Chamber of Commerce: In a speech to the Seattle Chamber of Commerce on September 24th, Jeff Raikes, CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, spoke of the foundation's most important local project -- ending family homelessness. Raikes spoke of the work of the Washington Families Fund led by Building Changes.
  • Building Changes 2008 Annual Report Available

  • Making a Difference in Cowlitz County: Staff from local agencies, community members, and business leaders joined Longview Mayor Kurt Anagnostou and Building Changes staff to celebrate nearly $1 million in first-time grants to the Drug Abuse Prevention Center and the Emergency Support Shelter – and to hear from people whose lives have changed as a result of these local programs.
  • Five Reasons to Attend our May 5th Luncheon: 1) You know homelessness is a growing problem; 2) You want to learn more about the issues; 3) You want to be inspired; 4) You want to be part of the solution; 5) You want to make a sound investment.
  • Newsworthy Notes: On April 19th, Longview's The Daily News published an editorial titled, "Building Changes' bold endeavor hits home."

  • Bold New Washington Families Fund Initiative Announced: On Thursday, March 19th, more than 20 public and private community partners affirmed their deep and shared commitment to reducing family homelessness in Washington State, pledging to reduce by 5000 the number of children and their family members experiencing homelessness in our state over the next decade.
  • Working to End Young Adult Homelessness in King County: Building Changes is working to end homelessness in the State of Washington, and our efforts are bringing the needs of homeless young adults to policymakers and funders. Last year, Building Changes’ staff led the establishment of strategies for ending young adult homelessness in King County and also helped design a competitive proposal that resulted in funding for 15 service-enriched young adult housing units in Federal Way, Auburn, and Kent.

  • Washington Families Fund Awards $3.5 Million in New Grants to Help Reduce Family Homelessness Statewide: Grants were made in the following counties: Cowlitz, King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Spokane. Unique to this round is nearly $1 million in first-time grants in Cowlitz County. To date, the Washington Families Fund has granted nearly $13 million to 36 projects across the State, supporting 522 units of service-enriched housing.
  • Danny Glover to be Keynote at May 5th Luncheon: Join us on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 for Building Changes'Annual Luncheon to End Homelessness. Danny Glover, Acclaimed Actor & Producer and Leading Social Activist, will be our keynote speaker.

  • A Letter from Betsy: Building Changes strives to make our essential social systems work better. Every dollar invested in our state must have real impact and must target the sources of the problem. Our 20 years of experience supporting collaborations and uniting public and private partners and resources creates lasting change.
  • 2008 Highlights: Launching of the Community Employment Pathways program, administrating the Washington Families Fund, & the opening of Kenyon House.
  • On the Horizon: Building Changes has completed two years of planned transition: we launched a new name, mission, and web site, and are updating our strategic business plan to further focus our work and plan for long-term organizational strength and stability. The plan will be completed by mid-2009.
