Federal Policy Issues Affecting Washington State
Child Welfare and Well-Being
- McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Youth and Children Program: The McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Youth and Children Program provides grants to state and local educational agencies to ensure that all homeless children and youth have equal access to education. These funds, which the U.S. Department of Education oversees, provide transportation and academic support for homeless children, and allow schools to better collaborate with community partners to support homeless children.
- Family Unification Program (FUP): The Family Unification Program (FUP), which is administered by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), provides Housing Choice vouchers to communities to help preserve and unify families in the child welfare system.
