Washington Families Fund
The Washington Families Fund makes grants in three areas of work: support services, employment services, and access to services through systems innovations.
1) Support Services
People experiencing homelessness need a stable place to call home and support in putting their lives back together. Washington Families Fund service grants fund agencies to provide services and programs for clients they are housing. We support two models of service funding, Moderate Needs and High Needs:
- The Moderate-Needs Family Service Model places an emphasis on activities that promote employment opportunities and stronger children’s services, in addition to core case management support.

This model focuses on permanent supportive housing with intensive wrap-around services.

2) Employment Services
People experiencing homelessness need access to employment training and opportunities. We are partnering with local workforce development organizations in King and Pierce counties to fund pilot programs that connect families to employment services, training, and education. Our three-year grants support the services of Housing and Employment Navigators, who assist case manager and residents of local Washington Families Fund programs. In King County we are working with the Workforce Development Council of Seattle – King County and in Pierce County we’re working with WorkForce Central.

3) Systems Innovations—Access to Services
People at risk or homelessness or experiencing homelessness need a coordinated community safety net that connects them with immediate assistance. In 2011 we started making targeted investments in changing the way our public systems, our services (such as housing, counseling, training), and our communities work together to help people in need. Five key strategies guide this work:
- Prevent homelessness by keeping individuals and families housed and linked to services
- Improve access to coordinated support services
- Tailor programs to deliver the right level of service at the right time
- Rapidly re-house homeless individuals and families
- Increase economic opportunities through education, training, and employment
